Synopsis of information contained in these documents:

Thomas McCarthy, a planter, died at Red Island in 1845.

He did not leave a will.

He was survived by his widow, Mary McCarthy [nee Kelly], and ten children, with two of the children, Jeremiah McCarthy and Catherine Ryan [wife of Denis], being adults.

He left an estate valued at 200 pounds sterling.

This petition to probate his estate was filed on October 28, 1845 by his widow Mary and their son Jeremiah.

A waver signed by Denis Ryan, husband of Catherine McCarthy, is included.

The widow Mary McCarthy, Jeremiah McCarthy, and Denis Ryan all signed their names with their mark (an "x").

Note - "McCarthy" is spelled "McCarty" in these pages.
